On Men

Perfect men. Yes, you read that right. They do exist, only in literature and on the arms of the girls who got there first *sigh*, but they do. The Teaspoon has blogged about them, so has The Soliloquist. Thought I’d give it a try as well.

First off, Brian de Bois-Guilbert from ‘Ivanhoe’. Horrid novel, horrid plot, but Brian was the first Byronic hero I’ve ever read about, that at a time when I didn’t know the term. Dark, brooding, sheer masculinity, a past. What more does an eleven year old want?

An older friend is Laurie, but the romantic possibility in Laurie was so overshadowed by the boy-next-door-you-fight-with-and-confide-in charm that I didn’t register that till Good Wives, when Lazy Laurence surfaced.
Loved Bhaer too, not more than Laurie, but I did. Don’t really like paternal types though.
Also, Dan. He’s so Laurie and Jo’s son. Not implying adultery. Just, literary inheritance, which sounds very strange.

Edmond Dantes, le Comte de la Monte Cristo. Need I say more?

James Steerforth. Yes, I like Byronic anti-heroes, why do you ask?

Darcy. But of course. Not sure whether the arrogance appeals more than the vulnerability subsequently revealed.

Heathcliffe.

Aragorn. That separate from my crush on Viggo Mortensen.

Rhett Butler. 'Nuff said.

Ennis del Mar & Jack Twist. Akhillos & Patroklos. Alexander & Hephaistion. Because.

Francisco D’Anconia. Hank Rearden. John Galt. Wynand. To a lesser extent, Roark.

Kirrin in Samit Basu’s GameWorld trilogy. He’s rather like Laurie, in some ways.

That’s it for the heroes from literature. Then there’s…

Sirius Black. Rowling’s Black in Prisoner of Azkaban and Goblet of Fire; sam-storyteller’s Sirius in the ‘Stealing Harry/Laocoon’s Children’ universe; my own * blows trumpet* in Snapshots.

Lex Luthor in the Smallville fandom, especially in the stories of Lanning Cook (Divergence Series), astolat (Reconciliable Differences) and rageprufrock (Conflicts of Interest/Visiting Hours)

Bruce Wayne.

Lancelot in the King Arthur (the Clive Owen - Ioan Griffud - Keira Knightly one) movie inspired crackverse Resurrection by amari-z.

That's really it. Pity none of 'em exist in reality. Not that they'd want me if they did. ;p

P.S:- Almost forgot. Can't believe I almost forgot. Milton's curly haired Byronic Hero. Lucifer, Son of Morning. Thanks, the teaspoon.

Just Laurie and Bhaer (to an extent) and someone else, not sure who.
